Here is Glenn's stunning debut solo CD. He is the best young player of his generation and this CD of important new literature is a must for any euphonium enthusiast !!
Glenn writes:
"The idea of making a CD stemmed from my success after winning the British Open Solo Competition. I wanted to make more publicity for the euphonium as a solo instrument and wanted brass instruments, in particular brass band instruments and players, to be taken more seriously. This album is a perfect example of my goal.
The cd includes new music by young and talented composers from Belgium and the UK. They include Tom Davoren, Steven Verhelst, Benjamin Tubb, Philip Sparke, Bert Appermont, Johan Evenepoel, Peter Meechan and Stan Nieuwenhuis. It was such a pleasure to be working with these composers. They understood what I wanted, anticipated my needs and were therefore able to write the most wonderful music.
The CD was recorded with the Gunnedah Shire Band in Australia. I got to know this band trough their conductor, Jason Katsikaris, who is also a great friend of mine. The band did a fantastic job and worked really hard during the recording sessions. It wasn't always very easy in the heat of the Australian summer and with me being sick from a Belgium cold!
The recordings are made on a Besson Prestige BE2052 euphonium. I couldn't think of a better instrument to record on. The valves are great and silent and the comfort it gives you to play on is just faboulus. As you can hear on the disc, the comfort of this instrument is what allowed me to respond to the way the composers challenged me with all their new music. I hope everyone enjoys listening to my album as much as I enjoyed making it!"
