Peter has composed many successful pieces for euphonium over the last 10 years or so, and this concert/recital work is sure to be very popular with players and audiences alike. Steven Mead performed this work during his recent tour of Japan to much critical acclaim.
Programme note from the composer:
JET A ( the name given to jet fuel) was commissioned by the American euphoniumist Robert Benton who, at the time of writing the piece, had completed over 300 sky dives. The piece recreates taking off and landing, as well is the fear and excitement that someone must feel in the moments leading up to a skydive.
Robert Benton comments:
"Whilst sitting on an aeroplane waiting to take off from Chicago, I happened to look out of the window and see a fuel truck filling the tanks of the plane, and on the side of the truck were the words JET A in big black letters. It occurred to me that it would be a great title for a high octane showpiece for euphonium and electronics".
